Poetry Of The Visual

Welcome to the art/photography showcase entitled Poetry Of The Visual. I am happy to present you with paintings by the very talented
Australian artist Mark Healy. His collection of paintings and drawings is absolutely beautiful. Such a fabulous talent!

Also featured for the month of March 2006 is the photography of the world renowned photographer Ian Williamson.

I'd like to thank both Mr. Williamson and Mr. Healy (whom I've fondly dubbed "Australian Picasso") for their contribution to this March 2006 edition of Poetry Of The Visual! Please do enjoy these impressive pieces of art they have shared for our enjoyment.

Mark Healy --- Various Paintings & Drawings

Mark Healy is a 43 year old resident of Perth, Australia. Mr Healy is a highly qualified musician, with classical training in voice and a Performance Certificate from Trinity College of London. He has fifteen years of oratoria work in his arsenal, including choral performances with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

So how'd you even find out your passion for visual art exists?: "I did a bit of charcoal drawings twenty years ago for about six months. Didn't really get into it though... I'd left the choir I was with and needed a creative outlet. "

Yes, I can imagine such a learned musician as yourself would definitely need an outlet to explore your creativity: "[Absolutely... So] one day I bought the book "How to Paint and Draw" which had a section on watercolour. Thought it looked interesting, so I bought some cheap paints and brushes and had a go - and realized I had some talent, and there ya go!"

We should each be thrilled that Mr. Healy rediscovered his joy of painting. He is currently enrolled part-time in a Certificate IV Visual Art program with Perth Central TAFE College where he continues to explore his artistic passions. Contact Mark at mark.healy@iinet.net.au.

butterflies and orchid, half-rainbows & stars at noon
wineglass and greenblades, gladiola of yellow make you swoon...
shall you comfort like benches in lounge rooms?
and fall in gardens? azalea & dogwood: special aroma awaiting you...
(in the gourd vine of redemption.)

Ian Williamson --- Photography

Ian Williamson is an 18 year old senior highschool student originally from Kingston, NY. Mr. Williamson currently resides in the Austin, TX area where he is in the tedius process of applying to colleges throughout the United States. He hopes to major in Engineering - possibly at the University of Pittsburgh - after highschool graduation.

So what draws you into the niche of photography: "Photography allows me to show others what I see in the world. It's like telling a bit of a story with each snapshot. It [allows me to] to defy conventional labels. I consider myself as more of a “prosumer” photographer."

A "professional consumer" of photography? Hm, that's interesting: "Something between professional and consumer" quips a coy Ian. "I've photographed live music performances, food, and people, nature scenes, and city scapes: anything that I find interesting."

During his time behind the camera lense, Ian describes himself more appropriately as an amateur photographer. He does, however, defy conventional labels; Ian's work has a whimsical charm about it, and really does make eloquent statements of maturity. You may visit his online photo gallery at Dropic.org.

I mock my self; shedding sorrow laughs of hindsight
Courage sees naught the unshed tear that threatens my inside
(My insight a faith wallowing in prepaid pain)
Yet joy cometh in the mourning
