Sancho Panza's Melody

Sancho Panza's Melody

august haze

the magnolia blooms still

fair-scented and pretty;

new roads (adventurous)

the sun fades

behind cumulous (aromas of tar;

aromas of her

catching up with the east)

west sleeps

in a daze of big stars

and large woody areas (the lot);

sun shines signs

of LA, the Puget Sound

mourns the morning

(in the mist: the memory

of dead presidents) exchanging

hands like a game of spades,

tonk, hearts, poker, pitty-pat: aces

& jokers, deuce’s wild

“Hi, honey -

you lay down, I

fold; you fold

I’ll lay fair-scented & pretty.”

magnolia blooms

august haze and crumpled dollar

bills in the hand of a

vagabond.
